My family is my husband Juuso, our daughter Stella and our three
lovely borzois; Swedish import male, Int & Multi Ch Lynx Spirit Of
The Tiger "Vito", his Finnish bred son, Tarijemiran Don Corleone
"Don" and a black girl from Czech Republic, Imperia Princess Majove
Bohemia "Nera".
I work in a newspaper, but only couple of days a week as I want to spend
as much time as I can with Stella and the dogs. Occasionally I'm also working
in advertising business. Juuso works as a director for
tv-commercials and is a partner in ambient design company.
We live in countryside in South Finland, in Sipoo,
which is about 30 kilometers from Helsinki to East on a coast side. Huge fields, forests and
the sea open just around the corner from our house, so this is a
lovely place to live with dogs.
On our daily walks the dogs can run free as much as they want. They
get natural excercise and
they also get used to run on different surfaces; for example long grassed
fields with ditches, forests with small and big rocks and brances.
This is what our dogs use to do from the puppyhood on when they come
to our family. By knowing the surfaces and their own limits they know when to slow down
and start watching the steps more carefully. I think that's a very good
extra
life insurance for a borzoi as their strong hunting instinct and
super speed can
bring them into quite dangerous situations sometimes.
I always look borzoi as a dog breed, which is originally made to be a very strong, fast, agile, and fearless hunting dog. Strenght in a borzoi means for me not only super physical condition, but also well-balanced and self-confident temperament.
To maintain an overall good health and vitality, our dogs' menu consist on fresh organic food; different raw, fresh meats, bones, vegetables and natural supplements.
I have grown up with animals and started riding horses when I was
5 years old. I spent every day of my childhood in the horse stables
with my parents as they were both very active in riding. Horses and
riding were a very big part on my life for almost 15 years as
it was more or less like a lifestyle of my chilhood family.
I got my first borzoi in 1984, when I was 10 years old. That was BIS
Fin Ch Hatsina Artamon Sergej, from
kennel Hatsina, Finland. Sergej was a wonderful boy, my best friend and
he enjoyed the
life in the stables and excercising with our horse.
Encouraged by my parents I started showing Sergej
in 1985.
Dog shows and showing dogs became my passion very fast. I guess I
was quite strongly motivated and stubborn 11 years old girl when I
started this hobby from zero, as four years later, in 1989, Sergej became BEST IN SHOW in the biggest
all breed dog show in Finland that time, with over 3100 dogs entered. Sergej continued his winning ways and became one of the most successful borzois in his
time in Finland.
Sergej was simply the reason why I fell in love with borzoi. I've had dogs in other breeds too in my life, but borzoi has always been my main breed.
Since my early years in borzoi world I've been very intrested on borzoi pedigrees and bloodlines all over the world, how different lines develop and what is characteristic to different bloodlines. Borzoi as a breed doesn't have only one correct type, so the appearance of a borzoi can vary quite a bit depending on the pedigree, of course in the limits set by the breed standard.
Dog shows and showing borzois has been by main hobby for over 20 years. Lately I have got intrested on lure coursing scene too - thanks to the wonderful people for introducing me the sport and inviting me to take a look to that side of the borzoi world.
At the moment I have my kennel prefix application on its way to FKC and FCI, so in the future I might breed a borzoi litter or two.
